Humans are People

By the time you are done reading Gordon’s Pride, you understand that the dragons view the humans as beasts and have a certain curiosity about Heron, who they consider to be Grabon’s pet. By the end of book 2 or Heron’s Bonds you know that Grabon and Heron are attempting to educate dragons that humans are capable of being part of a clan. They are much more than pets, deserving of rights, and capable of contributing to society.

In books 3&4 The Heartsinger and Healing, members of Grabon’s clan are working together, discounting species as irrelevant other than a consideration for wings. In Book 5, Grabon’s Nest, as Grabon finds his mate and secures the bond, Pia can read the truth of his understanding in his own thoughts. It is a revolutionary idea that these humans, considered primitives and best avoided beasts from off world, can be functioning clan members, contributing to the larger society as well as aiding in the defense of the clan.

There is a great deal of learning happening among the dragons, even among those that are bluntly disbelieving. Opinions are formed and reformed about the person qualities of the humans. All the while, the humans are doing the same with the dragons; judging, weighing actions, words and intentions. What is the standard that makes a person a person?
