Weight Limits

I am a big person, come from big people, and we have very little guilt about it, unlike some other big people who spend their lives apologizing and starving themselves to fit in someone else’s idea of size, but I digress. This rant is about weight limits. Why would they have a 200 lb weight limit on a chair? Or a step stool?  Or a 250lb limit on a ladder? Isn’t that just setting up a whole group of people to get injured? A 200 lb person + 50lbs of tools?

Its like clothes, oh look this dress is $20… in size 2, in real sizes it is $35 -$45. See, big people pay more. Okay, logically it takes more material, more thread and there are reasons, but it feels like another penalty when added to the discomfort of armed chairs that make it almost impossible to sit or stand up afterwards. Have you ever had to ask someone to pull a chair off your ass? It is not the most embarrassing thing in the world but it could compete.

Being big is not convenient in a world that is designed for small people. Try working in a kitchen or opperating a lawn mower designed for 6.5 foot people and you get a small sense of the inconvenience. Having things collapse under you or having to admit that you exceed the weight limit is simply adding insult to injury.

I would add the inconvenience of being short in a tall person’s world. Why are the top shelves in grocery stores out of my reach?
We are not all made to play basketball!
