My Garden Grows
I am not a neat tidy row kind of gardener. I like to plant things in an amongst other things, not on barren stripped ground that gets sun baked and stripped of nutrients. Sometimes that works well, sometimes it doesn’t but it saves me a lot of time with weeding. I only pluck out anything killing one of my desired plants. However searching out beans is harder when the beans are growing among other plants. It is also more of a challenge finding squash, zucchini, tomatoes, and cucumbers. On the other hand, it is never easy keeping track of what is being produced.
I live in an ideal situation, a farmer uses his plow to dig up my garden, disc, rake and get it prepped. I start plants inside, put them outside and plant more seeds. What grows with water and sun is what we eat and I tend what comes up. Is it predictable? No. Is it an adventure? Absolutely. Would I do it the same way if I needed the food? Not at all.
