Dry to Wet
The weather is fickle in the Midwest. Dry as dust, flash floods and fluctuating temps can make anyone expand their bag of emergency equipment. It has always been weird, only now it is even weirder. The extreames are growing so we get more. If you think we are confused by shifting patterns imagine the squirrels, rabbits and geese. Those squirrels have industriously planted nuts, built their nests and planned for a future that is on an ever changing course. They don’t know if they are putting on fur or shedding it. Rabbits are designed to survive, even in times of famine, but they are challenged by floods and drought. The geese are expanding territories, flying in circles and looking for good spots where their ponds and water supplies do not dry up midsummer. All that without the debate of global warming, shifting weather patterns or placing blame. Humans need to become solution oriented and realize that weather extreames are increasing. We need to do what we can to stop it, plan for it and prepare. Are we as a species dumber than the squirrels?
